What Can A Private Duty Aide Do For You?

Does your loved one need extra help with day-to-day activities? Are they still able to live on their own, but could use some assistance? It might be a good time to look into a professional caregiver. (Also known as an Aide, CNA, HHA, or PDA)

Seniors enjoy living in the comfort and safety of their own home as long as they can. Being there for your loved one is a priority, but it is not always possible. A Private Duty Aide can work with the family to provide services to elderly individuals in need of assistance with their day-to-day activities as well as provide the companionship your loved ones are looking for.

What Can Aides Provide?

Professional Caregivers can provide a range of services with a goal of providing the individual, as well as their family, support with their daily living activities in order for them to remain independent in their own homes. Aides can visit the home of your loved one to assist with:

Personal Care This includes helping your loved one maintain proper personal and oral hygiene by bathing and brushing their teeth, getting dressed, personal grooming (hair care and shaving), medication reminders, and other day-to-day activities.

Companionship As your loved ones age, they may start to get lonely in their home. Private duty aides keep them engaged in activities and their community.

Homemaking Private duty aides can assist with cooking and serving nutritious meals, completing light housekeeping such as dusting and vacuuming, taking care of laundry/bed linens, making the bed, shopping, and running errands.

Transportation Whether your loved one needs to go to the store, pharmacy, senior center, a friend or family member’s house, private duty aides can make it possible for seniors to go to the places they want, with safe transportation.

Private Duty Aide vs. CNA’s

You might be unsure which home aide is best suited for your loved one, a private duty aide or a certified nursing assistant (CNA). While these caregivers perform some of the same tasks, their roles are not quite the same. Private duty aides assist with everyday tasks and are great helpers and companions to seniors, but they do not have medical training. Although they are highly trained and certified, they do not provide their clients with medical assistance. CNAs assist seniors with many of the same tasks that private duty aides help with, but they have the medical training to take vitals, track symptoms, and talk about health concerns.
