The Benefits of Private Duty Aides in Assisted Living Care

When Assisted Living isn’t enough

Choosing the appropriate level of care for your loved ones can be a complex and emotional process. Even after you’ve considered every factor, the question remains: “is this level of care enough?”. Whether you choose in-home care or an assisted living facility, you might find that the baseline level of support does not cover every need that your loved one might have. In an assisted living facility, seniors can maintain a sense of community and independence while also receiving general care, but what about their individual specific day-to-day needs? If a higher level of support is required, you may want to consider utilizing the services of a professional caregiver, such as a private duty aide (PDA). At Home Care Connectors, we provide hourly or live-in support services that can benefit residents of assisted living facilities.

What is a private duty aide?

A private duty aide is a highly trained and certified caregiver who can assist seniors with everyday tasks. They can help alleviate the stress of caring for a loved one by assisting with the duties and needs that you and your family may not have time to fulfill. Although PDAs do not provide medical assistance, they provide the companionship and assistance that may be missing from your loved ones’ care plan.

What type of care can a PDA provide?

Private duty aides provide hands-on assistance and higher levels of personal care. Whether your loved one is suffering from memory loss or cannot respond to physical or verbal cues, a private duty aide can provide hourly or 24/7 care. Depending on the level of care you require for your relatives, PDA’s can visit or live in the assisted living facility to help in several ways:

Personal Care– This includes helping your loved one maintain proper personal and oral hygiene by bathing and brushing their teeth, getting dressed, personal grooming (hair care and shaving), medication reminders, and other day-to-day activities.

Companionship (companion care)– As your loved ones learn to adapt to 24/7 assisted living, they may get lonely. Private duty aides keep them engaged in activities within the assisted living community.

Transportation– Whether your loved one needs to go to the store, pharmacy, senior center, a friend or family member’s house, private duty aides can make it possible for seniors to go to the places they want with safe transportation.

Will the assisted living facility provide the PDA?

Home Care Connectors will work with you to assess the needs of your loved ones and offer solutions that work for your family. The private duty aide will not work for the assisted living facility but rather for your loved one, adding an extra layer of support within the residence. There are various levels of care that you may or may not require for your loved one. Some seniors may require 24/7 care, in which case, we would provide live-in services for your loved one within the facility. We also offer hourly PDA services if 24/7 care is not necessary.
